04/10/02 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-9

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE ALLENDALE-FAIRFAX HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE TEAM ON ITS EXCELLENT JANUARY 2002 SHOWING AGAINST NATIONWIDE COMPETITION AT THE ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT AND HONORING ITS RECENT STELLAR EFFORTS IN STATE COMPETITION.

Whereas, the Allendale-Fairfax High School Debate Team won four of the six debates it undertook against national competition at Arizona State University in January; and

Whereas, the team members traveled to Arizona with three first place wins under their belts in statewide tournaments held at Barnwell, Stratford, and Irmo High Schools; and

Whereas, a previous national effort resulted in a runner-up award in the State of Tennessee Tournament; and

Whereas, juniors Julia Jefferson and Fatima Zeidan were also crowned the Two-Person Varsity Open Champions for the State of South Carolina in competition against all classifications of both public and private schools; and

Whereas, the successes of this young but intellectually disciplined team are an inspiration to the citizens of Allendale County and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Allendale-Fairfax High School Debate Team on its excellent January 2002 showing against nationwide competition at the Arizona State University Tournament and honor its recent stellar efforts in state competition.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Alfonso Lamback on behalf of the school and debate team.
