VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

4/29/2003

H. 4085

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE TIMBERLAND HIGH SCHOOL "WOLVES" BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR STELLAR 27-2 SEASON AND APPLAUD THEIR 2002-2003 CLASS AAA STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, THE FIRST-EVER STATE CROWN FOR THE BERKELEY COUNTY SCHOOL.

Whereas, the Timberland High School "Wolves" of Berkeley County continued their season-long dominance of opposing basketball teams when they took the South Carolina AAA roundball title for 2002-2003 in a 67-45 win over Lugoff-Elgin, March 8, 2003, in Columbia; and

Whereas, the 27-2 "Wolves", Coach Jerome Stewart, Assistant Coaches Joseph Wallace and Carlton Spears, Trainer Wayne Jefferson, Jr., Team Managers Christopher Gainey and Spencer Goodman, Principal Eugene Lemmon, and loyal fans celebrated the first state championship ever for the seven-year-old St. Stephen high school; and

Whereas, the "Wolves" jumped to a 6-0 lead and capitalized on their defense, determination, and rebounding to wear down a Lugoff-Elgin offense that had scored seventy points in a prior playoff game; and

Whereas, high scorers Keith Marshall (18 points) and Michael Griffin and Dustin Scott, both with 16 points, provided the fire power, and Bryan Williams' inspired play set up a 10-2 run late in the first half to settle the matter; and

Whereas, Dustin Scott's twin Justin, Desmond Addison, and Ronald Washington contributed their usual steadfast and consistent play, and form a nucleus for a returning top team; and

Whereas, other valuable Timberland High School "Wolves" are Ronald Hunter, Fitzgerald Wiggins, Durant Norton, Evan Blanding, Derrick Gant, Robert Williams, and Jamar Lumpkin; and

Whereas, their hard work and success is typical of the gutsy performances of hundreds of student athletes across the State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the members of the Timberland High School "Wolves" Basketball Team on their stellar 27-2 season and applaud their 2002-2003 Class AAA State Basketball Championship, the first-ever state crown for the Berkeley County School.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Jerome Stewart, Principal Eugene Lemmon, and the "Wolves" Championship Team.
