A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE JESSICA LYNN CORLEY OF IRMO, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON BEING SELECTED TO RECEIVE THE 2006 JOHN DEWEY WINBURN, JR. SCHOLARSHIP AND TO WISH HER THE VERY BEST AS SHE EMBARKS ON HER COLLEGE CAREER AT CLEMSON UNIVERSITY.

Whereas, Jessica Lynn Corley of Irmo, South Carolina, the daughter of Wayne and Patricia Corley, has been selected to receive the John Dewey Winburn, Jr. Scholarship; and

Whereas, Miss Corley, an aspiring teacher, outstanding leader, and exceptional student at Dutch Fork High School will be attending Clemson University; and

Whereas throughout her high school career, Miss Corley has had an outstanding academic record and has participated in many extracurricular activities, including cheerleading, squad co-captain, school newspaper staff, and the Teacher Cadet program, demonstrating commitment to success and her strong leadership; and

Whereas, the John Dewey Winburn, Jr. Scholarship was established in 2006 by Representative Nathan Ballentine in honor of his maternal grandfather who passed away in 2000 and in furtherance of his commitment to return his legislative salary to the community. Mr. Winburn was a former school teacher and salesman and a Navy veteran of World War II. He loved high school football and served as a South Carolina football official for over twenty-five years; and

Whereas, Mr. Winburn was a graduate of Clemson University, and

this scholarship will be awarded annually to one high school senior who plans to attend Clemson University; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such an outstanding student and leader as Miss Jessica Corley, an outstanding daughter of South Carolina, who has brought great pride to her family, school, and community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Jessica Lynn Corley of Irmo, South Carolina, on being selected to receive the 2006 John Dewey Winburn, Jr. Scholarship and to wish her the very best as she embarks on her college career at Clemson University.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Miss Jessica Corley of Irmo, South Carolina.
