 EMPLOYEE AND FOR HIS FAITHFUL SERVICE AS PASTOR OF THE PROGRESSIVE BAPTIST
 CHURCH IN COLUMBIA FOR TWENTY-ONE YEARS.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE REVEREND CHARLES EPPES, SR., OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR A DISTINGUISHED THIRTY-FOUR YEAR CAREER AS A STATE EMPLOYEE AND FOR HIS FAITHFUL SERVICE AS PASTOR OF THE PROGRESSIVE BAPTIST CHURCH IN COLUMBIA FOR TWENTY-ONE YEARS.

Whereas, the Reverend Charles Eppes, Sr., is a lifelong resident of Richland County. He attended public high school at Booker T. Washington, and he attended Midlands Technical College where he earned a certificate in printing technology; and

Whereas, he retired January 16, 2006, as the Manager of Printing Services from the Department of Mental Health where he worked for thirty-four years; and

Whereas, Reverend Eppes has been pastor of Progressive Baptist Church of Haskell Heights in Columbia for twenty-one years. During those years the church initiated Boys Night Out at Bluff Road Park and the Boys to Gentlemen Youth Ministry. The Boys to Gentlemen Youth Ministry is presently involved in a project collecting stuffed animals for the Children's Emergency Clinic. They will present the stuffed animals to the hospital officials on June 10, 2006; and

Whereas, Reverend Eppes worked ten years with the Boy Scouts of America serving as scoutmaster and unit commissioner. In addition, he has served on the Midlands Human Resource Development Commission, the Chamber of Commerce Community Relations Council, and was appointed in January by the Governor to the Richland County Recreation Commission; and

Whereas, he is married to his lovely wife, Eartha, and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Sharretta and Cartisha Eppes, and one son, Charles Eppes, Jr., and one grandchild, Malaijah; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to publicly recognize and thank this wonderful man for a lifetime of service to his church, community, and State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend the Reverend Charles Eppes, Sr., of Richland County for a distinguished thirty-four year career as a state employee and for his faithful service as pastor of the Progressive Baptist Church in Columbia for twenty-one years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Charles Eppes, Sr.
