H. 3867

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE FLOSSIE AND THE SINGING SISTERS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TOWARD PRESERVING THE HERITAGE OF AFRICAN AMERICAN GOSPEL MUSIC, SPREADING KNOWLEDGE AND LOVE OF THIS MUSICAL TREASURE, AND CREATING NEW AUDIENCES FOR ITS ENJOYMENT.

Whereas, gospel music is an integral part of the cultural fiber of South Carolina and the United States and, more particularly, of the African American community; and

Whereas, the history of gospel music and the African American community are interwoven in such a way that the music has often reflected the struggle, challenges, and victories of the African American community; and

Whereas, as part of the gospel music industry for more than thirty years, Flossie and The Singing Sisters, founded by prolific songwriter, singer, and arranger Flossie Johnson, is one of the most sought-after female gospel groups to tour this country; and

Whereas, although blessed to call Bishopville home, Flossie and The Singing Sisters perform well beyond its boundaries, possessing a well-deserved worldwide reputation as one of the best female gospel groups ever to sing the Good News of Jesus. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize Flossie and The Singing Sisters for their outstanding contribution toward preserving the heritage of African American gospel music, spreading knowledge and love of this musical treasure, and creating new audiences for its enjoyment.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Flossie and The Singing Sisters.
