A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE BARNWELL HIGH SCHOOL SCARLET KNIGHTS BAND OF BARNWELL COUNTY UPON RECEIVING AN INVITATION FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR, THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, AND THE INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE ASSOCIATES TO REPRESENT THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA BY MARCHING IN THE 1995 INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE IN PreviousWASHINGTONNext D.C. ON JULY 4, 1995.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are excited to learn that Barnwell High School Scarlet Knights Band of Barnwell County will be representing the Palmetto State in the 1995 Independence Day Parade in PreviousWashingtonNext, D.C. on July 4, 1995; and

Whereas, the Scarlet Knights have won numerous awards and honors during the 1994-95 school year including the Best Color Guard, Best Place Drum Major, Best Percussion, and First Place Class AA in the Hanahan Low Country March-A-Rama on September 24, 1994; Best Drum Major, Best Horn Line, First Place Class AA, and Grand Champion in the James F. Byrnes Tournament of Bands on October 1, 1995; Best Drum Major and Second Place Class AA in the Carolina Low Country Tournament of Bands on October 15, 1994; Third Place Class AA in the Lower State Marching Band Championships on October 22, 1994; and Second Place Class AA (highest finish since 1966) in the South Carolina Marching Bands Championships; and

Whereas, ten members of the Scarlet Knights Band placed in the Southern Region Honors Bands and three members placed in the South Carolina All-State Bands; and

Whereas, the Barnwell High School Band has a perfect score thus far to qualify for the state's highest award, "The Outstanding Performance Award"; and

Whereas, under the excellent direction of Mr. Bob Cotter, Director of the Scarlet Knights and Donna Cotter, Assistant Director, these greatly talented young men and women have every right to be proud of their hard work, dedication, unity, and accomplishments; and

Whereas, this is an outstanding, highly deserving group of young musicians, and all the citizens of South Carolina are extremely proud that they have been selected to represent this State in such a prestigious manner. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Barnwell High School Scarlet Knights Band on the invitation it has received to march in the 1995 Independence Day Parade in PreviousWashington, D.C. on July 4, 1995.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Bob Cotter, Director of the Scarlet Knights Band, and to Phil Flynn, Principal of Barnwell High School.
