A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING ST. ANDREWS MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR BEING ONE OF FIFTY NORTH AMERICAN SCHOOLS SELECTED AS A GRAND PRIZE WINNER OF THE 1999 DAIMLER CHRYSLER AWARD OF EXCELLENCE AND TO CONGRATULATE NATHANIEL P. WINGARD, CHOSEN TO REPRESENT THE SCHOOL ON THE GRAND PRIZE TOUR OF PreviousWASHINGTONNext, D.C. AND GERMANY.

Whereas, the St. Andrews Middle School is one of fifty schools in the United States and Canada to be named a Grand Prize Winner of the 1999 Daimler Chrysler Award of Excellence; and

Whereas, the award, a global awareness program sponsored by Daimler Chrysler and the Goethe-Institute, is administered through the Destination Germany contest; and

Whereas, this contest was conceived in 1991 to foster mutual understanding of friendship between young people in North America and Germany and to promote a greater interest in Germany, its language, and culture; and

Whereas, since its inception in 1991, more than five hundred thousand young North Americans have participated in the program; and

Whereas, the three hundred sixty students from St. Andrews Middle School faced stiff competition from approximately two thousand schools and two hundred thousand students across the country for one of the fifty Awards of Excellence; and

Whereas, St. Andrews Middle School has selected Nathaniel P. Wingard to represent the school on a three-week study tour to PreviousWashingtonNext, D.C. and Germany; and

Whereas, Nathaniel P. Wingard is an outstanding student at St. Andrews Middle School who brings great pride to his school, the community, and the State of South Carolina, as he embarks on this extraordinary tour. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognizes and congratulates St. Andrews Middle School for being one of fifty North American schools selected as a Grand Prize Winner of the 1999 Daimler Chrysler Award of Excellence and to congratulate Nathaniel P. Wingard, chosen to represent the school on the three-week grand prize study tour in PreviousWashington, D.C. and Germany.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Kenneth L. Richardson, Principal, Julius D. Waites, Eighth Grade Team Leader, and Nathaniel P. Wingard, St. Andrews Middle School, 1231 Bluefield Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29210.
