 IN THE NATIONAL HISTORY DAY COMPETITION TO BE HELD JUNE 9-13, 2002, IN
 WASHINGTON, D. C.

TO CONGRATULATE THE FIVE STATE HISTORY DAY COMPETITION WINNERS FROM HAND MIDDLE SCHOOL AND EXTEND TO THEM BEST WISHES AND GOOD LUCK IN THE NATIONAL HISTORY DAY COMPETITION TO BE HELD JUNE 9-13, 2002, IN WASHINGTON, D. C.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to learn that having made it through three competitions: school, regional, and State, five Hand Middle School students will now compete in the National History Day Competition in Washington, D.C. on June 9-13, 2002; and

Whereas, the students representing Hand Middle School and the State of South Carolina in the national competition are: Joe Martin, documentary; Richard Hahn, essay; Lindsay Lesesne and Rebecca Rogers, group performance; and Caroline Grego, exhibit; and

Whereas, National History Day in South Carolina is an exciting educational program that encourages students to study history and expand their knowledge. At all levels of competition, students have the opportunity to meet participants from other schools, exchange ideas, and demonstrate the results of their work; and

Whereas, entries at each division are judged separately at all levels of competition from district to state to national finals. National History Day in South Carolina provides students with an opportunity to research original materials and express what they have learned through creative and original dramatic performances, media documentaries, research papers, or exhibits; and

Whereas the program in South Carolina begins in six districts around the State. The first, second, and third place entrants at the district level advance to the state finals. Students who place first or second at the state competition proceed to the national finals; and

Whereas, these five students have worked diligently since September, and the House of Representatives wishes each of them every success at the National History Day Competition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the five State History Day Competition winners from Hand Middle School and extend to them best wishes and good luck in the National History Day Competition to be held June 9-13, 2002, in Washington, D. C.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Joe Martin, Richard Hahn, Lindsay Lesesne, Rebecca Rogers, and Caroline Grego.
