A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING RICHLAND NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL OF RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO FOR WINNING A FIRST PLACE GOLD MEDAL AWARD AT THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS COMPETITION IN NEW YORK CITY DURING THE WEEK OF APRIL 7, 1991.

Whereas, Richland Northeast High School of Richland School District Two won one of only five first place gold medal awards at the National High School Model United Nations (NHSMUN) competition held in New York City during the week of April 7, 1991; and

Whereas, the twenty-five members of the Richland Northeast team served on thirteen committees and also took first place honors for the fourth consecutive year for presenting the best research paper in the competition; and

Whereas, the team was accompanied by its advisor, Ms. Lynn Washington, and competed against one thousand nine hundred other students representing one hundred forty delegations from schools across the United States, as well as Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands; and

Whereas, team members included William Reynolds, Ragnar Miguel Myhrer, Burt Goodson, Cory Allen, Gordy Brandyburg, Shannon Ewing, Shawn Moffatt, Dolly Gray, David Kuehn, Hoyt Burnett, William Owens, Mike Majure, Cory Newman, Jennifer Vernon, Erik Myhrer, Mary Kathleen Tally, Shannon Meyers, Sally Sue Garris, Kelly Ewing, Laura Bundrick, Vivica Williams, Lauren Griswold, Kunal Kanitkar, Daniel Haltiwanger, and Charles Kopp; and

Whereas, Richland Northeast's first place finish is a credit to the team members' intelligence and dedication and the team advisor's leadership and guidance and is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Richland Northeast High School of Richland School District Two for winning a first place gold medal award at the National High School Model United Nations competition in New York City during the week of April 7, 1991.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Richland Northeast team, in care of Ms. Lynn Washington, at Richland Northeast High School, 7500 Brookfield Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29223, and to Ms. Donna Windham, Coordinator of Public Information, Richland School District Two, 6831 Brookfield Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29206.
