A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS
OF THE SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF
REVEREND E. ALFRED VANCE WHO DIED SUNDAY, MARCH
6, 1994.
Whereas, Reverend E. Alfred Vance died Sunday, March 6, 1994; and
Whereas, a native of Clinton, Reverend Vance was a graduate of Bell
Street High School in Clinton. He received a bachelor's degree from
Allen University, Columbia, a master's degree in education from
South Carolina State University, and a master of divinity degree from
Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio. Reverend Vance
also studied at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; and
Whereas, he was a former principal at Richard Carroll High School in
Bamberg, a former dean of instructors at Bettis Junior College in
Trenton, and retired from Strom Thurmond High School in Johnston;
and
Whereas, Reverend Vance was a pastor at Miller Chapel African
Methodist Episcopal Church and Cumberland African Methodist
Epsicopal Church, both of Aiken, and St. Peters African Methodist
Episcopal Church; and
Whereas, Reverend Vance founded Vance Bail Bonding Company.
He was president of the Aiken Chapter of the National Association for
the Advancement of Colored People from 1982-1986, served from
1977-1980 on the Aiken County Community Action Commission
Board of Directors, and was a Mason; and
Whereas, survivors include three sons, Alfred Vance, Jr., Washington,
D.C., the Reverend William Vance, and Thomas Vance, both of
Aiken; a daughter, Vonnie Vance Washington, Hilton Head; two
brothers, Ples Vance, Miami, and Edwards Vance, Virginia; six
grandchildren; and a step-grandchild; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate are proud to note the many
accomplishments and wonderful life of Reverend Vance. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate express their deepest sympathy to the
family and many friends of Reverend E. Alfred Vance who died
Sunday, March 6, 1994.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the Vance family.
