A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND RECOGNIZE HELEN ELLIS PETRILL FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY AND BEST WISHES UPON HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Helen Ellis Petrill was raised in Buckingham County, Virginia and is the widow of the Reverend David Petrill; and

Whereas, Mrs. Petrill is a graduate of Cetre College in Kentucky; and

Whereas, she spent two years as the secretary for the PCUS Board of Christian Education before entering the McCormick Seminary; and

Whereas, Mrs. Petrill served as a church secretary in PreviousWashington, D.C. and a secretary-church visitor in Annapolis, Maryland; and

Whereas, Mrs. Petrill received a Master's Degree in Religious Education from Union Theological Seminary in New York in 1961; and

Whereas, her work in Christian education has brought Mrs. Petrill to New York, Indiana and South Carolina; and

Whereas, she has served with the UPCUSA Board of Christian Education as the field representative for the publication division; and

Whereas, her work has also been with the Shenandoah Presbytery and the Synod of the Southeast; and

Whereas, Mrs. Petrill has distinguished herself by serving as the only Presbytery Educator for the Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery since 1988; and

Whereas, she is currently a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Charleston, where she has also served as an elder on the Session; and

Whereas, Helen Ellis Petrill has announced her retirement, effective June 30, 1995, and her intentions to return to her home state of Virginia. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly express their gratitude and congratulate Mrs. Helen Ellis Petrill on her lifetime of service to the Christian community and confer their best wishes upon her retirement and return to Virginia.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Helen Ellis Petrill.
