A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO HONOR MR. MAC ARTHUR GOODWIN UPON HIS ELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ART EDUCATION ASSOCIATION, WHICH IS THE WORLD'S LARGEST PROFESSIONAL ART EDUCATION ASSOCIATION AND A LEADER IN EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH, POLICY, AND PRACTICE FOR ART EDUCATION.
Whereas, Mr. Mac Arthur Goodwin, an education associate with the South Carolina Department of Education in Columbia, South Carolina, was recently elected President of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) for a term to begin March 28, 1999; and
Whereas, the NAEA is the world's largest professional art education association and a leader in educational research, policy, and practice for art education; and
Whereas, Mr. Goodwin is a trustee of the National Art Education Foundation, a member of NAEA's Research Commission, and a former President of the South Carolina Art Education Association; and
Whereas, Mr. Goodwin received the South Carolina Governor's Award for Arts Education in 1990 and the National Art Educator of the Year Award in 1991, and Mr. Goodwin was named a National Art Education Association Distinguished Fellow in 1992; and
Whereas, Mr. Goodwin holds degrees from Claflin College and the University of South Carolina, and he started his professional career as an elementary and secondary art teacher in Spartanburg, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mr. Goodwin has held arts education and policy appointments on the National Standards Committee, National Assessment of Educational Progress, the College Board, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Educational Testing Service, the Council of Chief State School Officers, and the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize the dedicated leadership of Mr. Mac Arthur Goodwin in the field of education and the arts.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Mac Arthur Goodwin.
