 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS
 OF ONE OF THIS STATE'S MOST PROMINENT AND RESPECTED LEADERS, WILLIAM N. "BILL"
 GEIGER, JR., A MEMBER EMERITUS OF THE CLEMSON UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF ONE OF THIS STATE'S MOST PROMINENT AND RESPECTED LEADERS, WILLIAM N. "BILL" GEIGER, JR., A MEMBER EMERITUS OF THE CLEMSON UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were stunned and saddened to learn of the death of William N. "Bill" Geiger on Friday, October 9, 1998, at the young age of sixty-four; and

Whereas, today we remember and honor a man, William N. "Bill" Geiger, Jr., who was the veritable cornerstone of myriad buildings, institutions, and ideas in South Carolina. The list of things he did, lives he touched, and parts of our world that were changed for the better because of him would fill volumes; and

Whereas, born in Columbia, Bill Geiger was a son of the late William N. Geiger, Sr., and Jean Russell Geiger. He received his architectural degree from Clemson University in 1957; and

Whereas, he was the loving husband of Wallis Mizzell Geiger of Columbia; a devoted father to: son and daughter-in-law, William Russell Geiger and Cindy Geiger of Columbia; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Geiger Lewis and A. Camden Lewis of Columbia and Joan Geiger Jamerson and Roy H. Jamerson, Jr., of Columbia; and the proud grandfather of William Camden Lewis, Wallis Jean Geiger Lewis, Lucy Geiger Jamerson, Hazel Lynn Jamerson, Aimee Lewis Schriabman, and great-granddaughter, Caroline Camden Schriabman; and

Whereas, in his path through life, Bill was continually and integrally involved in organizations, businesses, and government, effecting change which would move our civilization forward. He was instrumental in establishing the Clemson Architectural Study Program in Genoa, Italy and purchased a villa there to provide living facilities for Clemson architectural students; and

Whereas, even though he always designated himself as "Bill Geiger, Architect", his interests and involvement went far beyond that boundary. He was vitally interested in both state and national politics, many times giving sage advice and support in many political ventures. He studied the directions of technology and added a body of sound technical knowledge to the toolbox of "Bill Geiger, Architect". Ever anxious to round out his repertoire of skills, he served on boards of a number of financial institutions, becoming well-accepted as a shrewd and knowledgeable financial authority; and

Whereas, beyond his business and professional life, he was a man who loved his family and delighted in the experiences of his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter; and

Whereas, Bill Geiger was one of the best friends that anyone could ask for. It made no difference about your station in life, your political influence, your wealth or lack thereof. If you were a friend, you were afforded his full attention and loyalty. If his counsel were needed, you had only to ask and you received it wholeheartedly; and

Whereas, his love of Clemson University spilled over into his quest to serve on the Clemson University Board of Trustees. Each and every time he ran as a candidate for Clemson's Board of Trustees, Bill Geiger not only wanted a majority of the votes but all of the votes and usually succeeded; and

Whereas, Bill's humor, intelligence, friendship, leadership, and politeness will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched; and

Whereas, it is appropriate that the members of the General Assembly pause in their deliberations to recognize the distinguished career and contributions of the legendary icon, "Bill Geiger, Architect". Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of one of this state's most prominent and respected leaders, William N. "Bill" Geiger, Jr., a member emeritus of the Clemson University Board of Trustees.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to his family.
