 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO CONGRATULATE AND RECOGNIZE THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF
 HAROLD JOHNSON UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS POLICE CHIEF FOR THE CITY OF SUMTER.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND RECOGNIZE THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF HAROLD JOHNSON UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS POLICE CHIEF FOR THE CITY OF SUMTER.

Whereas, it has been brought to the attention of the members of the House of Representatives that City of Sumter Police Chief Harold Johnson will retire on June 30, 2001, after completing a twenty-nine year career in law enforcement; and

Whereas, he began his career as a reserve police officer with the City of Sumter Police Department in 1972, joined the police force in 1987, later was named major of the department's support services division, and was appointed police chief in 1990; and

Whereas, during his tenure as police chief, he established a Citizen's Advisory Committee which is credited with improving relations between the residents of the City of Sumter and its police department, modernized the department's equipment, and raised the salaries of his police officers; and

Whereas, Police Chief Johnson has been recognized by numerous public and private organizations which include the American Legion, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the South Carolina General Assembly; and

Whereas, he is a graduate of Clarendon Hall, Sumter Area Technical College, St. Leo College, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy; and

Whereas, Police Chief Johnson is married to the former Ms. Linda Marie Edwards, and together they are the proud parents of one son and two daughters; and

Whereas, in view of his commitment to the public safety needs of his community, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives find it most fitting to pause in their deliberations to congratulate and recognize Harold Johnson on his retirement as City of Sumter Police Chief. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and recognize the many accomplishments of Harold Johnson upon his retirement as Chief of Police for the City of Sumter.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to City of Sumter Police Chief, Harold Johnson.
