A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING TUOMEY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER IN SUMTER FOR RECEIVING AN EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH ACCREDITATION RATING FROM THE JOINT COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS AND EXPRESSING SINCERE APPRECIATION TO THE STAFF AND ADMINISTRATION FOR THEIR SUPERB PERFORMANCE AND ONGOING SUPERIOR PATIENT CARE.

Whereas, Tuomey Regional Medical Center of Sumter has, for the third consecutive time, received an exceptionally high accreditation score, ninety-six out of one hundred in this evaluation, from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation's oldest and largest private accreditation body for healthcare organizations; and

Whereas, Tuomey submits voluntarily to this evaluation and is in an elite group of hospitals in that only one percent of the twelve thousand hospitals in the country rated by the joint commission receive a score of ninety or better three times in a row; and

Whereas, the evaluation includes a weeklong inspection, and may involve random visits, by a team comprised of a physician, nurse, and an administrator which evaluates over five hundred areas ranging from patient care and safety to hiring practices and management, as well as conducting random interviews with patients and employees; and

Whereas, additionally, the evaluation provides an opportunity to showcase innovative programs, and Tuomey's infant massage program, the only South Carolina hospital with a formal program, was well received by the survey team and may recommend it nationally and name it the best practice program; and

Whereas, annually the joint commission raises its standards and on each occasion Tuomey administration and staff have overwhelming met the challenge, this year's outstanding score of ninety-six out of one hundred was preceded by equally impressive scores of ninety-five and ninety-seven; and

Whereas, the hospital's commitment to superior patient care is evident not only by these outstanding accreditation scores, but also by its investment in the community having, over the past eight years, tripled its medical staff and spent over seventy-five million dollars on renovations, expansion, and state-of-the-art equipment and technology; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to take this opportunity to congratulate the Tuomey administration, medical staff, and all hospital personnel on such an outstanding record and their daily commitment to providing the highest quality medical care. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter for receiving an exceptionally high accreditation rating from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and express their sincere appreciation to the staff and administration for their superb performance and ongoing superior patient care.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jay Cox, President and Chief Executive Officer, Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
