A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MARION RICKS, JR., OF SUMTER ON RECEIVING A YOUTH SERVICE AWARD AT THE SUMTER BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE FREEDOM FUND AWARDS BANQUET ON NOVEMBER 8, 2002, COMMEND HIM ON HIS HEROIC ACTIONS IN SAVING "BABY GRACE", AND WISH HIM EVERY SUCCESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Master Marion Ricks, Jr., is eleven years old and is in the fifth grade at R. E. Davis Elementary School. He enjoys playing football, riding his bike, playing computer games, and watching movies. Young Master Ricks has hopes of becoming a carpenter some day. He is the son of Marion Ricks, Sr., and Elouise Ricks; and

Whereas, young Master Ricks and his lifelong friend, Darius Jenkins, discovered a newborn baby girl that had been abandoned in a field during their daily bike ride in July 2002. They notified a neighbor about their discovery and the police responded to the scene; and

Whereas, after the officers arrived, Marion Ricks accompanied his friend, Darius Jenkins, to young Master Jenkins' home where they informed Mr. Jenkins' parents about their discovery. Young Master Jenkins' parents accompanied the young men to the field where the officers commended the young men for their heroic actions; and

Whereas, Marion Ricks often asks his mother about "Baby Grace" and continues to show concern for her well-being; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to honor the heroic actions of Marion Ricks, Jr., for his part in saving the life of "Baby Grace". Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Marion Ricks, Jr., of Sumter on receiving a youth service award at the Sumter Branch of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People Freedom Fund Awards banquet on November 8, 2002, commend him on his heroic actions in saving "Baby Grace", and wish him every success in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Marion Ricks, Jr., of Sumter.
