VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

H. 4372

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE JOHN TUCKER, SUPERINTENDENT OF FORT SUMTER NATIONAL MONUMENT, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CAREER WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pride in commending South Carolinians who go above and beyond what is asked of them in order to make their communities and South Carolina as a whole a better place to live; and

Whereas, John Tucker is one such person, as he has given thirty-five years of his life to invaluable service with the National Park Service; and

Whereas, becoming superintendent of Fort Sumter and the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site in 1989 just six weeks before Hurricane Hugo dealt its devastating blows, John Tucker spent the next two years steadfastly overseeing the repairs to Fort Sumter and the building of a new dock for tour boats; and

Whereas, serving as superintendent of Fort Sumter, Mr. Tucker is responsible for 42 historic structures, ten monuments and memorials, and 182 acres of cultural sites; and

Whereas, John Tucker also oversaw the development and construction of the fifteen-million-dollar Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center and tour boat facility in downtown Charleston, attracting countless visitors annually from around the nation; and

Whereas, giving generously of his time and talents in various capacities at other national parks and historic sites, including the Andersonville National Historic Site and the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, Mr. Tucker has displayed great passion for what he does and will be truly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize John Tucker, Superintendent of Fort Sumter National Monument, for his outstanding career with the National Park Service and wish him all the best upon his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. John Tucker.
