A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND DR. WILLIAM F. "BILL" PUTNAM,
SENIOR ASSOCIATE DEAN AND PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE
TO THE UNIVERSITY UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS DEAN.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned with very
deep regret that Dr. William F. "Bill" Putnam will retire on
June thirtieth of this year as senior associate dean and professor of
economics at the University of South Carolina College of Business
Administration; and
Whereas, Bill Putnam first came to Carolina in 1946 as a student and
began his teaching career in the College of Business Administration in
1956; and
Whereas, during his thirty-seven years in the College of Business
Administration he has a well-deserved reputation for intelligence,
loyalty, and dedication which, combined with a graciousness and a wit
that few possess, have endeared him to all those in the Carolina family;
and
Whereas, from 1970 until 1992, Bill Putnam also served as the faculty
representative to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
and his advice and counsel to the University while serving in this
position was invaluable and helped make the University a respected
member participant in college athletics at the highest level; and
Whereas, the respect in which he is held as a teacher and administrator
is evidenced by the establishment of an accounting scholarship in his
honor in 1989 by the Friends of the Accounting Department; and
Whereas, the University is fortunate that after his retirement he will
continue working with the USC-Business Partnership Foundation which
provides important liaison to the business community; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
would like to publicly recognize and thank this truly outstanding teacher
and administrator for his contributions to the University of South
Carolina upon the occasion of his retirement as Dean. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Dr.
William F. "Bill" Putnam, senior associate dean and
professor of economics at the University of South Carolina College of
Business Administration, for his exemplary service to the University
upon his retirement as Dean.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr.
William F. "Bill" Putnam.
