A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING LOU A. FONTANA OF RICHLAND COUNTY
ON BEING NAMED DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC INFORMATION OF
THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
AND WISHING HIM THE BEST IN HIS NEW POSITION.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have recently learned
that Lou A. Fontana, formerly Senior Reporter for WIS-TV in Columbia
was recently named as Director of Public Information for the South
Carolina Department of Public Safety; and
Whereas, Lou Fontana has been a familiar face in the State House as the
legislative and governmental affairs reporter for WIS-TV for the past
nine years; and
Whereas, his knowledge of the legislative process and his working
relationships with key lawmakers have earned him much respect from
all with whom he has come in contact; and
Whereas, his ability to understand the implications of legislative strategy
and translate those issues into laypersons' terms gave viewers of
WIS-TV in the Midlands a perspective into the legislative process which
few other news stations could match; and
Whereas, Lou won many awards during his career including Winner of
the 1986 Radio/Television News Directors' Association Investigative
Reporting Award, Winner 1985 Associated Press General News
Reporting Award, Winner 1981 Associated Press Spot News
Photography Award; and
Whereas, he served as Chairman of the Capitol Press Corps from 1988
to present; and Whereas, we remember Lou's documentary on Hurricane
Andrew including coverage of South Carolina Electric and Gas
Company's crews restoring power in Southern Florida, feeding hurricane
victims, and the story of law enforcement following the hurricane; and
Whereas, although the members of the General Assembly will miss the
television interviews they had with Lou Fontana, they wish him the very
best in his new career with the South Carolina Department of Public
Safety. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That Lou A. Fontana of Richland County be congratulated on being
named Director of Public Information of the South Carolina Department
of Public Safety and wishing him the best in his new position.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lou
A. Fontana.
