A JOINT RESOLUTION
TO NAME THE BUILDING WHICH HOUSES THE
AUTOMOTIVE PROGRAM AT FLORENCE-DARLINGTON
TECHNICAL COLLEGE AS THE "JOHN M. PAXTON
BUILDING".
Whereas, Mr. John M. Paxton served as a member of the
Florence-Darlington County Commission on Technical Education
from l966 to l985; and
Whereas, John M. Paxton was an outstanding businessman with a
vision for the future of quality technical education. As owner of
Horne Ford Company with dealerships located in Florence, Sumter,
Orangeburg, and Greenville, he recognized the need for trained
automobile and diesel mechanics to service the high-tech vehicles in
today's market; and
Whereas, John M. Paxton provided the guidance to establish a
leading automotive program in the Southeast and through his
efforts, the College built a facility to house the automotive program;
and
Whereas, John M. Paxton brought immeasurable progress in areas
of technical education, physical growth, procedural refinements, and
personal friendships which benefited the Pee Dee area as well as the
State. Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
SECTION 1. The building which houses the automotive classes
at Florence-Darlington Technical College is named the "John
M. Paxton Building" and the college shall place appropriate
signs designating the building as the "John M. Paxton
Building".
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by
the Governor.
