 A Concurrent Resolution to express the deepest sympathy of the members of the
 General Assembly to the family of Mr. Marion S. Fowler, Sr., of Lake City, one
 of South Carolina's most acknowledged experts on tobacco and tobacco
 marketing, upon his death.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MR. MARION S. FOWLER, SR., OF LAKE CITY, ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S MOST ACKNOWLEDGED EXPERTS ON TOBACCO AND TOBACCO MARKETING, UPON HIS DEATH.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of Mr. Marion S. Fowler, Sr., of Lake City at the age of eighty-three; and

Whereas, Marion Fowler was a native of Lake City, an honor graduate of The Citadel in 1932, and began his tobacco career as a sales supervisor of the Lake City tobacco market in 1936; and

Whereas, he was recognized as South Carolina's most acknowledged expert on tobacco and tobacco marketing. His storehouse of memories was a constant source of enjoyment to all who sought his counsel, and his great knowledge was complimented by his collection of information, statistics, and memorabilia on a broad range of issues in the area of tobacco production and sales; and

Whereas, he was also a man of varied interests who also studied medicine and accounting, and during his remarkable career, he was a schoolteacher as well as being a newspaper editor; and

Whereas, Mr. Fowler was one of Lake City's and Florence County's most active and respected community leaders. He was the Jaycees' Young Man of the Year in Lake City in 1947 and served as president of the chapter. He was named one of the ten outstanding young men of the year in the State and received U. S. Junior Chamber of Commerce recognition for community service, and was named Lake City's Citizen of the Year in 1986; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend their sincere condolences to his wife, son, and other members of his family, upon the death of this truly outstanding man. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Marion S. Fowler, Sr., of Lake City, one of South Carolina's most acknowledged experts on tobacco and tobacco marketing, upon his death.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Annie Lee Keels Fowler.
