A Bill to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section
20-7-935 so as to authorize the Court to suspend a person's sentence and order
the person to perform community service for violation of an order for the
payment of child support and to require withholding of any compensation the
person may be entitled to for this service for the payment of the support.

A BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA,
1976, BY ADDING SECTION 20-7-935 SO AS TO AUTHORIZE
THE COURT TO SUSPEND A PERSON'S SENTENCE AND
ORDER THE PERSON TO PERFORM COMMUNITY SERVICE
FOR VIOLATION OF AN ORDER FOR THE PAYMENT OF
CHILD SUPPORT AND TO REQUIRE WITHHOLDING OF
ANY COMPENSATION THE PERSON MAY BE ENTITLED TO
FOR THIS SERVICE FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE SUPPORT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 20-7-935. The court may suspend the sentence
of a person found in contempt of court for violating a court or
administrative order for the payment of child support and may order
the person to perform community service for a period of time
determined by the court. If the person performing the community
service is eligible to be compensated for this service, this
compensation must be withheld for payment of child support in
accordance with Section 20-7-1315."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the
Governor.
