A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION OF
THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE HONORABLE PHILIP
H. PRINCE FOR HIS EXEMPLARY DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
AS THE PRESIDENT OF CLEMSON UNIVERSITY.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of
South Carolina hereby publicly commend Philip H. Prince,
President of Clemson University, for his outstanding public service
and unselfishness to Clemson University; and
Whereas, Philip H. Prince has served as President of Clemson
University during a critical time in its history, when the University
was entering the early stages of a major restructuring, dealing with
declining budgets, and searching for a permanent President; and
Whereas, Mr. Prince forfeited his seat as a Life Trustee in order to
avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest in order to assume the
Presidency; and
Whereas, Mr. Prince contributed his salary as President to the
Clemson University Foundation as a charitable gift; and
Whereas, Mr. Prince has provided outstanding leadership by
completing academic and administrative restructuring so that fewer
resources are devoted to management and more to teaching and
student needs, improving internal communication with faculty and
staff, serving as Chairman of the Council of Presidents, and
becoming a strong, vocal advocate for Clemson University and for
all of higher education in South Carolina; and
Whereas, Philip H. Prince's Presidency culminates a lifetime of
service to Clemson University that includes serving on the Board of
Trustees, Chairing the Campaign for Clemson, serving on the
Alumni National Council, serving as President of the Clemson
University Foundation Board of Directors, contributing to the
Clemson University Foundation, and IPTAY; and
Whereas, Mr. Prince has been honored many times by the
University for his outstanding service as recipient of the Alumni
Association's Distinguished Service Award, the President's Award,
and the Clemson Medallion (Clemson University's highest public
honor); and
Whereas, the accomplishments of this fine South Carolinian have
brought long, deserved recognition not only to Clemson University,
but upon the entire State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to take
this opportunity to express their deepest appreciation to Philip H.
Prince for a job well done and to wish him Godspeed in all future
endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, state their recognition of and
appreciation for the service, loyalty, and dedication shown by Philip
H. Prince to Clemson University and to the State of South Carolina
during his tenure as President and throughout his lifetime.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Philip H. Prince.
