GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MRS. LOVATOR MCCOLLOM YOUNG OF RICHLAND
COUNTY UPON HER DEATH.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS
OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MRS.
LOVATOR MCCOLLOM YOUNG OF RICHLAND COUNTY
UPON HER DEATH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply
saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Lovator McCollom Young of
Richland County; and
Whereas, she was the daughter of the late Jake and Anise McCollom;
and
Whereas, Mrs. Young was educated in the public schools of Richland
County and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in
1945; and
Whereas, she was an alumna of Benedict College; and
Whereas, Mrs. Young was united in holy matrimony to Deacon
James Young in 1947 and together reared five children; and
Whereas, she dedicated her life to educating her children and the
children in her community, and served as President of the PTA at
William H. Barton Elementary School for three years and
Vice-President of the PTA at C. A. Johnson High School; and
Whereas, Mrs. Young served as the Right Noble Governess of the
Household of Ruth, was an active leader of the Grand United Order
of Tents #3566, and Queen of the Royal Degree Chamber #12; and
Whereas, she was a dedicated and active member of the New
Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served as President of the
Deaconess Board, President of the Den Mothers and Fathers,
Secretary of the Jubilee Choir #2, and Treasurer of the Baptist Jubilee
Choir Union's Cooperative Board; and
Whereas, Mrs. Young was a certified tutor with the Greater Columbia
Literacy Council, a member of the Business Women Society of
America, and was employed with the South Carolina National Bank
for twenty years; and
Whereas, she was above all a devoted wife and a good mother to her
five children; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
extend their condolences to her widower, children, other family
members, and friends upon the death of truly a fine person. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express their deepest
sympathy to the family of Mrs. Lovator McCollom Young of
Richland County upon her death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
her widower, Deacon James Young, Sr.
