1998, AND WISHING HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS OUTSTANDING
MINISTRY.

RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE REVEREND BARRY WRIGHT OF
COLUMBIA ON HIS INSTALLATION AS PASTOR OF ST. JOHN
BAPTIST CHURCH ON SUNDAY, APRIL 26, 1998, AND
WISHING HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN
HIS OUTSTANDING MINISTRY.
Whereas, The Reverend Barry Wright of Columbia is to be installed
as Pastor of St. John Baptist Church on Sunday, April 26, 1998; and
Whereas, The Reverend Wright was a student intern at Union Baptist
Church in Durham, North Carolina from 1995 to 1996 and served as
Associate Pastor of Trinity Missionary Baptist Temple from 1990 to
1994; and
Whereas, he also served as President of Liberty/Bryan BTU Sunday
School Area Congress from 1993 to 1994 and was Dean of Education
for the Liberty/Bryan BTU Sunday School from 1989 to 1992; and
Whereas, he was General Chairman of the Martin Luther King
Observance for Liberty County, Georgia, from 1990 to 1994 and was
Pastor of 1st African Baptist Church in 1987; and
Whereas, The Reverend Wright graduated from Duke University's
Divinity School in 1997, receiving the Master's in Divinity degree;
he graduated from St. Leo's College in 1990 with a B.A. degree in
management and also obtained an A.A. degree in liberal arts from St.
Leo's in 1987; and he attended South Carolina State in Orangeburg
from 1978 to 1981; and
Whereas, his relevant course work has been in New Testament
Studies, Old Testament Studies, Church Ministries, Marriage
Counseling and the Family, and Church History; and
Whereas, he is a member of Whiterock Baptist Church of Durham,
North Carolina, and his convention affiliations include the National
Baptist USA, Inc., and Progressive National; he is also a life-long
member of the NAACP and a member of the Columbia Ministerial
Alliance; and
Whereas, he is an outstanding individual and a truly gifted and
dedicated minister of the Gospel; he is respected and admired by all
who know him, and St. John Baptist Church is greatly blessed to have
him as its pastor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, congratulates The Reverend Barry Wright of Columbia on
his installation as Pastor of St. John Baptist Church on Sunday, April
26, 1998, and wishes him continued success and happiness in his
outstanding ministry.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
The Reverend Barry Wright.
