A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AT THE DEATH OF MRS. WILLIE RICHARDSON OF PENDLETON, THE LAST OF THE ORIGINAL NEGRO FAMILY SETTLERS OF THAT HISTORIC TOWN.

Whereas, Mrs. Willie Richardson of Pendleton died Sunday, January 10, 1999; and

Whereas, she was the last surviving family member of the original Negro settlers of historic Pendleton; and

Whereas, the Town of Pendleton, the home of the First Farmers' Hall in America, is proud of the contributions of all its founders to the diversity of its culture and the richness of its history; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina also recognizes the vital roles of its black population in creating and nourishing the proud tradition and present successes of this great State. Now, therefore,
