BERRY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

03/11/99 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-13

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE HEARTFELT SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF THOMAS ROY BERRY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Thomas Roy Berry, who was best known as "Roy", on Thursday, March 4, 1999, at the age of eighty-five; and

Whereas, he was born in Saluda County, the son of the late Thomas B. and Kate Berry and the beloved brother of three sisters, Edna B. Coleman and Estelle Martin, who predeceased him, and Georgia B. Jones of Saluda, and two brothers, Clarence Berry, who predeceased him, and Hugh W. Berry of Hartsville; and

Whereas, Roy was the loving husband of the late Lucile Howle Berry and the proud father of their daughter, Ann B. Martin of Camden, and the especially proud grandfather of four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Ann Martin, Roy's devoted daughter, is a well-respected and admired staff member who has been employed by the South Carolina House of Representatives since 1980 and who, as the chief receptionist of the House of Representatives and the Blatt Building Manager, has taken care of the members and staff of the House of Representatives for many years and has been our confidante and our friend; and

Whereas, Roy was a graduate of Saluda High School and Clemson University; and

Whereas, he retired from his employment with the City of Sumter and worked for Life of Virginia for fourteen years; and

Whereas, Roy was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church where he served as president of the Fisher Sunday School class and vice president of the Keen-agers Club; and

Whereas, Roy Berry was a charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Optimist Club; and

Whereas, Roy lived a full and rewarding life and gave unselfishly of himself to his family, community, church, and his friends; and

Whereas, he loved his family and his home deeply, and people knew him as a genuinely kind human being; and

Whereas, Roy's friendship, leadership, intelligence, and love of life will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their heartfelt sorrow upon the death of Thomas Roy Berry and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ann B. Martin.
