A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE BETTY J. SMITH, RECEPTIONIST AND SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR FOR THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, ON HER NEW POSITION AS ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO THE HONORABLE ALISON RENEE LEE OF THE CIRCUIT COURT, AND TO WISH HER THE VERY BEST IN HER NEW ENDEAVORS AND TO TELL HER SHE WILL BE SORELY MISSED BY THE STAFF AND MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

Whereas, Betty J. Smith has served the House of Representatives with dedication for over nine years as a receptionist and switchboard operator in the Blatt Building; and

Whereas, she served as the primary receptionist on the second floor of the Blatt Building for over eight of those years and, as the receptionist, she handled the messages, greeted the visitors, and directed the activity for the personnel, agencies, and committees on that floor with confident self-assurance, competence, and many a kind word; and

Whereas, Betty Smith is a long-time faithful member of the Greenview Baptist Church in Columbia and, also a member of various Masonic organizations; and

Whereas, Betty is the proud and loving mother of three children, Alonzo D., Anita D., and Amiel D. Smith; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives recognizes that when Betty Smith leaves her service in the House of Representatives, she will leave many staff who will miss her greatly because she has touched their lives over and over; among these staff are Ann Martin, her supervisor, Lem Harper, Paulette Young-Goodwin, Marcia Legare, and Howard Still; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives wishes Betty great success as she prepares for her new position in public service. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, that the members of the House of Representatives congratulate Betty J. Smith, receptionist and switchboard operator for the House of Representatives, on her new position as administrative assistant to the Honorable Alison Renee Lee of the circuit court, and wish her the very best in her new endeavors and tell her she will be sorely missed by the staff and members of the House of Representatives.
