 HIS DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE AND ON THE OCCASION OF HIS OUTSTANDING
 TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER.

CONGRATULATING JERRY L. COKER, OF FLORENCE COUNTY, FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE AND ON THE OCCASION OF HIS OUTSTANDING TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned that one of the Palmetto State's most accomplished and widely respected law enforcement officers, Jerry L. Coker, retired in 1999; and

Whereas, Mr. Coker began his illustrious law enforcement career in 1974, when he joined the Timmonsville Police Department; and

Whereas, Jerry Coker became associated with the Florence County Sheriff's Office in 1975, and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in the Patrol Division in 1977. Mr. Coker's willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty was recognized in 1983, when he was named the Deputy Sheriff of the Year; and

Whereas, Jerry Coker ably demonstrated his abilities and dedication in all areas of law enforcement and in 1983, was promoted to the Investigative Division of the Florence County Sheriff's Office. His distinguished career was again recognized, when he was selected as the 1984 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year; and

Whereas, Jerry Coker was the lead investigator on a number of serious and horrific crimes in Florence County, including tracing one of Florence County's most wanted fugitives, Bill Prince; and

Whereas, Jerry's community service includes serving on the Timmonsville Rescue Squad and Timmonsville Volunteer Fire Department, as well as serving as a youth baseball coach from 1987 through 1993; and

Whereas, following his retirement, Jerry Coker has received awards and letters of congratulations from Governor James H. Hodges; Florence Mayor Frank E. Willis; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; SLED Chief Robert M. Stewart; Public Safety Director B. Boykin Rose; and the South Carolina Bureau of Protective Services; and

Whereas, Jerry Coker has receive plaques of appreciation from the United States Secret Service, United States Postal Service, and WBTN-TV 13; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they may honor so distinguished and able son of South Carolina on his numerous contributions and accomplishments during his career as a law enforcement officer and for his unselfish commitment to his community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Jerry L. Coker of Florence County, for his distinguished public service and on the occasion of his outstanding twenty-five years as a law enforcement officer.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jerry L. Coker, 732 Corbett Place, Florence, South Carolina 29501.
