 SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF WALTER L. SALTERS, PH.D., OF
 ORANGEBURG COUNTY AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS WIDOW, GRACE HEYWARD
 SALTERS, PH.D., DAUGHTER, OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS, AND MANY FRIENDS.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF WALTER L. SALTERS, PH.D., OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS WIDOW, GRACE HEYWARD SALTERS, PH.D., DAUGHTER, OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS, AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were saddened to learn of the death of Walter L. Salters, Ph.D., of Orangeburg County; and

Whereas, Dr. Salters was born in 1935 in St. Stephen, South Carolina, a son of the late Willie Dread and Marie Izzard Salters; and

Whereas, he was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Claflin University and a Doctorate of Philosophy degree from Atlanta University, and completed further studies at Purdue University, South Carolina State University, and North Carolina Central University; and

Whereas, as a youth Dr. Salters attended Zion United Methodist Church and later joined Trinity United Methodist Church in the City of Orangeburg where he was active with the United Methodist Men, Vice Chair of the Administrative Board, served as Steward, was a Lay Delegate for the South Carolina Annual Conference, served on the Board of Ordained Ministry and on the Bishop's Task force to defeat video poker; and

Whereas, he received numerous awards, citations, and commendations for his diligence and persistence; and

Whereas, Dr. Salters was committed deeply to Claflin University and its alumni, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and seriously undertook his responsibilities as a member of the South Carolina State University Board of Trustees; and

Whereas, left to mourn his passing are his wife of more than thirty-six years, Grace Heyward Salters, Ph.D., one daughter, Mrs. Vincent (Damita) Prince, three brothers, one sister, and a host of other relatives, and friends; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly want his widow, daughter, other family members, and many friends to know that they are uppermost in their thoughts and have the members' deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the death of Walter L. Salters, Ph.D., of Orangeburg County and extend deepest sympathy to his widow, Grace Heyward Salters, Ph.D., daughter, other family members, and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Salters widow, Dr. Grace Heyward Salters.
