A BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 15-1-245 SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE AMOUNT OF AN APPEAL BOND THAT MUST BE POSTED BY A DEFENDANT APPEALING A PLAINTIFF'S VERDICT ARISING FROM TOBACCO LITIGATION WHERE PUNITIVE DAMAGES WERE AWARDED.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 15-1-245. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an appeal bond not to exceed the limits provided below must be posted by a defendant appealing a plaintiff's verdict arising from tobacco litigation where punitive damages were awarded:

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
