PATTERSON OF AIKEN FOR THEIR HEROIC ASSISTANCE WITHOUT REGARD TO THEIR
PERSONAL SAFETY IN APPREHENDING A BURGLAR WHO HAD ROBBED AND ASSAULTED THEIR
 NEIGHBOR.

04/26/00 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-6

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND ANDY OSWALD, JOHN HAMILTON, AND MARK PATTERSON OF AIKEN FOR THEIR HEROIC ASSISTANCE WITHOUT REGARD TO THEIR PERSONAL SAFETY IN APPREHENDING A BURGLAR WHO HAD ROBBED AND ASSAULTED THEIR NEIGHBOR.

Whereas, on September 25, 1999, a resident of Aiken returned home and found an intruder in her bedroom; and

Whereas, the intruder assaulted her while attempting to commit a robbery, and the resident was able to flee her home and run to the home of her neighbor, Andy Oswald, and ask for his help; and

Whereas, Andy Oswald together with friends, John Hamilton and Mark Patterson, in route to the victim's home saw the suspect come out of the home. They proceeded to chase him down the street, and were able to apprehend him and hold him until the police arrived; and

Whereas, these three wonderful "Good Samaritans" prevented more harm coming to the victim as well as further damage to her property; and

Whereas, this act of unselfishness is the highest tradition of neighbors coming to the aid of other neighbors regardless of the circumstances in times of trouble; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank these three South Carolinians for this truly heroic and unselfish act; and

Whereas, their efforts resulted in the conviction of the burglar and he received a sentence he deserved, ninety years in prison with eligibility for parole after service of twenty-nine years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Andy Oswald, John Hamilton, and Mark Patterson of Aiken for their assistance without regard to their personal safety in apprehending a burglar who had robbed and assaulted their neighbor.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Andy Oswald, John Hamilton, and Mark Patterson.
