A HOUSE RESOLUTION

HONORING CLARENCE GREGG RILEY III OF LEXINGTON COUNTY UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF SWANSEA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WITH SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR HIS LIFELONG DEDICATION TO AND INSPIRATION OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF LEXINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT 4.

Whereas, Clarence Gregg Riley III of Lexington County will retire this year as Principal of Swansea Elementary School, ending his official duties in educating the youngsters of Lexington School District 4; and

Whereas, his leadership of Swansea Elementary caps a distinguished career in early childhood education, including service as Principal of Frances Mack Elementary School in Gaston and Myrtle Beach Elementary School and Director of Special Services and Assistant Principal with Lexington School District 4; and

Whereas, his long and dedicated tenure in public education is highlighted by personal involvement with children, motivating them to great achievements through his example; and

Whereas, he led a contingent of children in "Just Say No to Drugs" marches in the Gaston Christmas and Collard Festival parades; and

Whereas, he inspired his students to read twenty thousand books by accepting the challenge to walk all the way to Columbia; and

Whereas, his dedication to the students of Lexington School District 4 is surpassed only by his love for his wife of twenty-eight years, the former Deborah Dunbar, and his daughters, Jennifer, a senior at the College of Charleston, and Jessica, a sophomore at Frances Marion University; and

Whereas, his well-deserved retirement will grant him more time for continued service to the community of Swansea and the United Methodist Church. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives honor Clarence Gregg Riley III of Lexington County upon the occasion of his retirement as Principal of Swansea Elementary School, with sincere appreciation for his lifelong dedication to and inspiration of the young people of Lexington School District 4.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Riley.
