 DEFENSIVE FORCE FOR THE CLEMSON UNIVERSITY TIGERS FROM 1978 UNTIL 1982 AND FOR
 THE NEW YORK GIANTS FOR SEVEN YEARS, ON HIS MANY ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS,
 INCLUDING HIS MOST RECENT HONOR OF BEING INDUCTED INTO THE SOUTH CAROLINA
 ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME.

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO TERRY KINARD OF SUMTER, A DOMINATE DEFENSIVE FORCE FOR THE CLEMSON UNIVERSITY TIGERS FROM 1978 UNTIL 1982 AND FOR THE NEW YORK GIANTS FOR SEVEN YEARS, ON HIS MANY ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS, INCLUDING HIS MOST RECENT HONOR OF BEING INDUCTED INTO THE SOUTH CAROLINA ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME.

Whereas,    through team sports, players are able to gain the valuable skills of teamwork, dedication, and determination, while individually developing great athletic abilities; and

Whereas, Clemson University, since its inception, has been nationally known for both its superb educational programs and its powerful athletic teams; and

Whereas, Terry Kinard of Sumter significantly enhanced Clemson's football reputation during his sport's career at the institution from 1978 until 1982 by leading the Tigers to the College Football National Championship in 1981; and

Whereas, he is one of the most highly decorated football players to ever play for Clemson University and in the State of South Carolina, by holding the prestigious honors of setting school records with his seventeen career interceptions, being ranked among the top five players in the nation in his final two seasons at Clemson, being named the National Defensive Player of the Year by CBS Sports at the conclusion of his senior year, being chosen to the Sports Illustrated and USA Today All-80s college teams, and being named to Clemson Centennial Team, comprised of the best players in one hundred years of Tiger football; and

Whereas, beginning his professional career as a first-round draft pick, Terry Kinard went on to become a star player in the National Football League with the New York Giants; and

Whereas, Terry Kinard was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December of 2001 becoming only the second player in Clemson history to receive this distinction, and was recently inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, extend their most sincere congratulations to Terry Kinard of Sumter, a dominate defensive force for both the Clemson University Tigers from 1978 to 1982 and for the New York Giants for seven years following, on his many athletic accomplishments, including his most recent honor of being inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Terry Kinard.
