TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF MR. DONNIE H. PreviousATKINSONNext, SR., ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2004, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the death of Donnie H. PreviousAtkinsonNext, Sr., of Clarendon County, on Sunday, February 8, 2004; and his leadership and kind acts will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his community; and

Whereas, Mr. PreviousAtkinsonNext was the son of the late William Thomas PreviousAtkinsonNext and Ethel Corrine Morris PreviousAtkinsonNext, and he spent most of his life working for the betterment of his community and his fellow neighbors; and

Whereas, a retired building supply coordinator with Coker Builders, Mr. PreviousAtkinsonNext was also a United States Navy Veteran; and

Whereas, Mr. PreviousAtkinsonNext served the Turbeville community for many years as a former mayor and town councilman for the city of Turbeville, and was awarded the Turbeville Citizen of the Year Award in 1985; and

Whereas, as a member of the Turbeville Ruritan Club, Mr. PreviousAtkinsonNext served as secretary; and he was also a member of the Douglas Post of the American Legion and a fifty-five year member of the Fidelity Masonic Lodge No. 394, where he served as past master; and

Whereas, for fifty-three years, Mr. PreviousAtkinsonNext was a member, deacon, and guardian of the Turbeville First Baptist Church; and

Whereas, Mr. PreviousAtkinsonNext was preceded in death by his wife, Arlen Floyd PreviousAtkinsonNext, and a sister, Etheleen A. Thomas; and

Whereas, Mr. PreviousAtkinsonNext is survived by two daughters, Sandra Nell McElveen of New Zion and Carol Parker of Turbeville; two sons, Donnie H. PreviousAtkinsonNext, Jr., of Cades and the Rev. Tommy PreviousAtkinsonNext of Sumter; three sisters, Rhoetta Oliva of Columbia, Lois Coker and Sylvia Jean PreviousAtkinsonNext, both of Turbeville; six brothers, Glellan PreviousAtkinsonNext and Charles PreviousAtkinsonNext of Turbeville, Billy PreviousAtkinsonNext of Scranton, Cecil PreviousAtkinsonNext of Manning, Bobby Joe PreviousAtkinsonNext of Andrews, and J. T. PreviousAtkinsonNext of Barnwell; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Helen Gibson of Florence. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. Donnie H. PreviousAtkinsonNext, Sr., on Sunday, February 8, 2004, and convey deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jennifer McElveen Johnson, of New Zion, South Carolina, granddaughter of Mr. Donnie H. PreviousAtkinson.
