S. 430

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF AND THE BLIND FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACHING STAFF ON THEIR FIRST UNDEFEATED SEASON AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR EXTRAORDINARY DEDICATION, DETERMINATION, AND HARD WORK THROUGHOUT THE 2004 SEASON AND TO WISH THEM EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF THEIR ACADEMIC, PreviousATHLETICNext, AND FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind was founded in 1849 and even during the earliest days, the school's founder, the Reverend Newton Pinckney Walker, considered physical activity an important aspect of learning and overall development; and

Whereas, by the 1915-16 academic year, the school began placing even greater emphasis on PreviousathleticsNext for boys and girls and organized team PreviousathleticsNext began. In 1962, SCSDB was accepted into the South Carolina High School PreviousAthleticsNext League and began participation in both regular conference play and tournaments; and

Whereas, the game of football affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing PreviousathleticNext talents; and

Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership skills and physical prowess, as well as a finely honed ability to communicate effectively on the field; and

Whereas, using these talents with drive and determination, along with countless hours of hard work, the members of The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind Football Team had an outstanding undefeated season; and

Whereas the team would have been lost without the help and support of Anthony Mays of Hampton County, who served as a Student Manager; and

Whereas, it is with great pride and immense pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use those skills both on and off the football field in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the members of The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind Football Team and coaching staff on their first undefeated season and commend them for their extraordinary dedication, determination, and hard work throughout the 2004 season and to wish them every success in all of their academic, Previousathletic, and future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Anthony Mays of Hampton County.
