A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE COLLECTIVE GRIEF AND ANGUISH OF THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO OUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK, IN THE COMMONWEALTHS OF PENNSYLVANIA AND VIRGINIA, AND IN OTHER PARTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO OUR ALLIES IN OTHER COUNTRIES WHO SUFFERED LOSS IN THE AFTERMATH OF APPALLING AIRPLANE HIJACKINGS AND PreviousATTACKSNext ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2001, EXPRESSING THE BELIEF THAT THE PERPETRATORS OF THESE TERRIBLE CRIMES WHICH ARE TANTAMOUNT TO AN ACT OF WAR SHOULD BE SWIFTLY BROUGHT TO JUSTICE, AND PLEDGING OUR PRAYERS AND OUR PURPOSE IN SUSTAINING THE STRENGTH AND SOLIDARITY OF THIS NATION, OUR PRESIDENT, AND OUR LEADERS AS WE RESPOND TO THIS UNPRECEDENTED PreviousATTACKNext ON AMERICA.

Whereas, on September 11, 2001, thousands of innocent people lost their lives and their loved ones or were injured in a shocking assault on The World Trade Center and The Pentagon; and

Whereas, on the same day an airplane hijacked as a part of these cowardly exercises crashed in the countryside outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, killing all aboard; and

Whereas, these awful losses were suffered by ordinary people as they were traveling or were working in buildings which had become symbols of America's extraordinary strength; and

Whereas, millions more people in this nation, and across the world, were sickened as they witnessed walls collapsing into rubble and faces collapsing into horror; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, on behalf of the State of South Carolina, desire to acknowledge and express their sorrow and that of its citizens to all those who have suffered loss through the death of loved ones or injury to themselves; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives also believe that all those who participated in or sponsored these terrible crimes against humanity should be quickly brought to justice without regard to region or border; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives of this State finally desires to avow and affirm its love for and belief in this country and its people and principles and its confidence in our President and leaders as they guide us through these dark and difficult days. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives do hereby express the collective grief and anguish of the people of the State of South Carolina to our friends and neighbors in the State of New York, in the Commonwealths of Pennsylvania and Virginia, and in other parts of the United States of America, and to our allies in other countries who suffered loss in the aftermath of appalling airplane hijackings and PreviousattacksNext on September 11, 2001, express the belief that the perpetrators of those terrible crimes which are tantamount to an act of war should be swiftly brought to justice, and pledge our prayers and our purpose in sustaining the strength and solidarity of this nation, our President, and our leaders as we respond to this unprecedented Previousattack on America.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable George W. Bush, President of the United States of America; the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives; the President of the United States Senate; Governors of the State of New York and Commonwealths of Pennsylvania and Virginia; and each member of the South Carolina Congressional Delegation.
