VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

5/25/2004

H. 5366

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND THEIR COACHING STAFF FOR WINNING THE SCISA REGION AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COMMEND THEM ON THEIR HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION TO BECOME A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork with developing great athletic talents; and

Whereas, to be a champion in soccer, all members of the team and coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, with the guidance and leadership of Head Coach David Harrell, the varsity girls soccer team of Greenwood Christian faced intimidating opponents and tough matches but were rewarded with the chance to become SCISA Region AA State Champions; and

Whereas, along their journey to the championship game, the Greenwood Christian soccer team enjoyed success in several competitions, entering the finals with an overall record of 8-3; and

Whereas, during the playoff competitions, the Greenwood Christian soccer team recorded two shut-out victories against Beaufort Academy and Trinity Collegiate, allowing only one team to score against them in the State Championship match against St. Andrews; and

Whereas, capturing the title of SCISA Region AA State Champions, the Greenwood Christian soccer team defeated St. Andrews in a dramatic final match that included four periods of overtime with no one scoring and six penalty kicks to finally determine that Greenwood Christian would be the champions after 110 minutes of play; and

Whereas, the members of this championship team include: Joy Cain, Carolina Clarke, Sarah Goforth, Jenna Owen, Nina Bonetti, Yoco Choi, Lin Le, Chelsea Rose, Carolyne Cain, Rebecca Wilson, Kate Hinrichs, Kate Fyock, Alison Gore, Corinne Burdette, Amy Johnson, Mallory Rose, and Caroline Cailan; and

Whereas, the Greenwood Christian School varsity girls soccer team has brought great pride to not only their friends and family but also to the students, faculty, alumni, and staff of Greenwood Christian and the community as a whole; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use their athletic skills and abilities in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Greenwood Christian School varsity girls soccer team and their coaching staff for winning the SCISA Region AA State Championship and commend them on their hard work and determination to become a championship team.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Greenwood Christian varsity girls soccer team.
