A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS
OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MR. H.
FILMORE MABRY OF ORANGEBURG, RETIRED CHIEF
EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE REGIONAL MEDICAL
CENTER OF ORANGEBURG AND CALHOUN COUNTIES,
UPON HIS DEATH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are deeply
saddened to learn of the death of H. Filmore Mabry, retired chief
executive officer of the Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and
Calhoun Counties; and
Whereas, Fil Mabry retired as chief executive officer of the
Regional Medical Center in December, 1993 after having served in
this position for thirty-two years; and
Whereas, he was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, received an
undergraduate degree in business administration from Duke
University in 1951, and completed the graduate program in hospital
administration at Duke University in 1955; and
Whereas, he truly distinguished himself as a leader in hospital
administration over a thirty-eight-year period. He began his career
in hospital administration in 1955 in Manning, assumed the position
of chief executive officer of the Regional Medical Center (then the
Orangeburg Regional Hospital) in 1961, and served in this capacity
until his retirement in December 1993; and
Whereas, Fil Mabry's contributions to Orangeburg and the
Orangeburg medical community are many, but clearly the opening
of the new medical center in May, 1991 is one of the great
milestones of his tenure at the Regional Medical Center; and
Whereas, the respect in which he was held by his colleagues, peers,
and associates is evidenced by the fact that the Regional Medical
Center and the adjacent cancer treatment center are named in his
honor; and
Whereas, with the loss of this fine man at the age of sixty-six,
Orangeburg and South Carolina have lost a thoughtful and caring
executive, a public-spirited community leader, a true gentleman, and
a good friend; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
would like to extend their sincere condolences to his wife, children,
and other members of his family upon his death. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their
deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. H. Filmore Mabry of
Orangeburg, retired chief executive officer of the Regional Medical
Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties, upon his death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
his widow, Mrs. Joan Mabry.
