A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF GENERAL
McCANTS, JR., OF MAYESVILLE IN LEE COUNTY.
Whereas, General McCants, Jr., of Mayesville in Lee County died
April 8, 1995; and
Whereas, Mr. McCants was born April 7, 1920, and was the son of
the late Anna Brunson McCants and General McCants, Sr; and
Whereas, he was an active member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist
Church in St. Charles where he was an usher, trustee, chairman of
the trustee board, finance committee, and United Methodist Men;
and
Whereas, in addition to serving in official capacities within the
church, General McCants also served with the male chorus for a
number of years and was affiliated with Do-Right Lodge No. 377
Prince Hall Masons; and
Whereas, General McCants is survived by his three sons, Robert L.
McCants, Russell J. McCants, and Vander Washington, and five
daughters, Sadie M. McCants, Barbara M. Perry, Dora M.
Washington, Lillie M. Joe, and Rose W. Carpenter. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
express deepest sympathy upon the recent death of General
McCants, Jr., of Mayesville in Lee County and would like for the
members of his family to know that their thoughts and prayers are
with them in this time of sorrow.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
each of the eight children of General McCants.
