A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXTENDING THE SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF
THOMAS EUGENE MILES OF ANDERSON COUNTY UPON
HIS RECENT DEATH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were saddened to
learn of the recent death of Thomas Eugene Miles of Anderson
County just six weeks after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer;
and
Whereas, born in Laurens County, Sergeant Miles joined the City of
Anderson police force as a patrolman in late 1971, moved to the
traffic division in 1978, and became a detective in 1989; and
Whereas, Sergeant Miles was proficient, thorough, and very
knowledgeable. He served the City of Anderson Police Department
faithfully for over twenty years specializing in white-collar crimes
such as fraud and embezzlement; and
Whereas, in addition to his regular law enforcement duties, Sergeant
Miles was a member of the Anderson County Fraternal Order of
Police Lodge No. 10 and was a member of Union Baptist Church;
and
Whereas, Sergeant Miles is survived by his widow, Betty Norris
Miles, sons William Christopher Miles of Anderson and Thomas
Wayne Miles of Forth Bragg, North Carolina; and
Whereas, this heavyset, imposing detective was never too busy to
say hello to a child, and his gruff manner was just a rough exterior
that revealed a big teddy bear inside; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like the
family and many friends of Sergeant Miles to know that their
thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of sorrow. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
extend deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of
Sergeant Thomas Eugene Miles of Anderson County in the loss
they have sustained upon his recent death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the family of Sergeant Miles.
