RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH
CAROLINA AT THE DEATH OF CLARENCE WASHINGTON,
JR., OF HOPKINS, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND EXTENDING
SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, born in Lexington County, Clarence Washington, Jr., was
a son of Iola Dervin Washington and the late Clarence Washington,
Sr.; and
Whereas, he was a graduate of Lake View High School, Vorhees
College, and the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mr. Washington was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity; and
Whereas, he served his country proudly in the armed forces and
was a U.S. Army veteran; and
Whereas, Mr. Washington was formerly employed in the Civilian
Personnel Department at Fort Jackson; and
Whereas, surviving are his wife, Karen Adams Washington of
Hopkins; sons, Clarence Washington III and Kentley Washington,
both of Hopkins, Charlton Washington of Columbia, Shawn
Brannon of Atlanta; daughters, Kimberly Washington of Columbia,
Omeka Harmon of Hopkins; brother, Ralph Washington of Atlanta;
and sisters, Donna Glover, Molly and Katrina Washington, all of
Columbia; and
Whereas, this outstanding individual, who meant so much to his
community for so long a time, will be missed tremendously; and
Whereas, we want his family and many friends to know that they
are uppermost in our thoughts and have our deepest sympathy.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Clarence
Washington, Jr., of Hopkins, South Carolina, and extend sympathy
to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the family of Clarence Washington, Jr.
