 RIDGEWAY, AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON HER RETIREMENT AS THE MAYOR OF RIDGEWAY.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING AND THANKING LAURA MULLER THOMAS FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO THE TOWN OF RIDGEWAY, AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON HER RETIREMENT AS THE MAYOR OF RIDGEWAY.

Whereas, Laura Muller Thomas was born in Blythewood, South Carolina, the daughter of Lee and Lottie Lavina Muller; and

Whereas, Laura Muller Thomas graduated from the University of South Carolina's Business School in 1941 and earned a master's degree in education from the University of South Carolina in 1978; and

Whereas, she taught business and typing at Ridgeway High School and Winnsboro High School for a combined twenty-five years; and

Whereas, Laura Muller Thomas has nine grandchildren, two foster grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and

Whereas, in 1992, Laura Muller Thomas was honored as "Mother of the Year" in South Carolina for her selfless and untiring devotion to her family; and

Whereas, Laura Muller Thomas became interested in government service during the fourteen years that her husband, Robert Walton Thomas, served as Ridgeway's mayor; and

Whereas, after her husband's death, she announced as a candidate for mayor in 1986, ran unopposed and has served continuously since; and

Whereas, Laura Muller Thomas, in her eleven years as mayor, was instrumental in the growth, development and success of downtown Ridgeway; and

Whereas, Laura Muller Thomas is truly dedicated and devoted to her family, her community and her State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That members of the General Assembly by this resolution hereby commend and thank Laura Muller Thomas for her many years of true public service to the Town of Ridgeway and to the State of South Carolina, and congratulate her upon her retirement as the Mayor of Ridgeway.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mayor Laura Muller Thomas.
