S*789 Session 112 (1997-1998)
S*0789 Resolution, By Moore
A SENATE RESOLUTION TO EXTEND THE SENATE'S HEARTIEST AND HEARTFELT
CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES FOR THE FUTURE TO MARGIE PLUNKETT, LONG-TIME
TREASURER OF AIKEN COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.
05/27/97 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-5
A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE SENATE'S HEARTIEST AND HEARTFELT
CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES FOR THE FUTURE
TO MARGIE PLUNKETT, LONG-TIME TREASURER OF AIKEN
COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, on June 30, 1997, after many years of total dedication and
service to the citizens of Aiken County as their duly elected
Treasurer, Margie Plunkett will undertake and pursue a much
deserved retirement; and
Whereas, on being elected Treasurer and beginning her first term on
July 1, 1977, Margie quickly won the love and earned the respect of
the citizens of Aiken County by practicing an open-door policy, by
being always ready, willing, able, and available to hear complaints,
problems, or just to chat, by being a friend to anyone in need without
saying "No" or "I can't," all of which is indelibly etched in the hearts
and minds of those who know her, and by the indisputable fact that
she was re-elected to the office of Treasurer of Aiken County for a
total of five consecutive terms, four of which were with opposition;
and
Whereas, while serving as Treasurer over many years, Margie
Plunkett exemplified that ancient Golden Rule by doing unto all of
the people of Aiken County exactly as she would be done by them,
always taking the time to listen to citizens and taxpayers and be
genuinely responsive to their problems, whether tax related or not,
thereby setting the standard as a truly professional public servant,
thereby earning the highest respect of the citizens of Aiken County
as well as the respect and admiration of her colleagues; and
Whereas, Margie combines the best qualities of a born leader, a
gracious lady, and an innovative pioneer whose wisdom, good
judgment, and leadership skills inevitably carried her public service
beyond the boundaries of Aiken County, where she currently serves
as President of the South Carolina Association of Auditors,
Treasurers, and Tax Collectors (SCATT), and is always eager to
serve with quick, accurate responses to calls for advice and assistance
from public servants and members of SCATT, all to the great benefit
of her fellow South Carolinians statewide. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate hereby extend their
heartiest and heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for the future
to Margie Plunkett, long-time Treasurer of Aiken County, dedicated
public servant, and friend to all, on the occasion of her much
deserved retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the Honorable Margie Plunkett.
