A SENATE RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF LON COURTNEY,
SR., OF JOHNSTON, AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS
FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
Whereas, Lon Courtney, Sr., of Johnston has died at the age of
ninety-six; and
Whereas, Mr. Courtney helped shape the Town of Johnston through
the years; he was an outstanding and successful businessman and,
through his business acumen, helped the town grow and prosper; and
Whereas, he championed numerous civic causes and gave freely and
generously of his time, talents, resources, and energy for the
betterment of the community; he also was instrumental in getting the
Milliken Company to locate its plant in Johnston in 1947, as well as
Mt. Vernon Mills, Riegel Textile; and
Whereas, Lon Courtney, Sr., was a born leader who possessed
tremendous vision and the extraordinary ability to plan and obtain
results; he was respected, admired, and loved by the entire
community; his legacy to the Town of Johnston is an outstanding one
of success and accomplishment; and he will be greatly missed. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution,
expresses sorrow at the death of Lon Courtney, Sr., of Johnston, and
extends sympathy to his family and friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. Courtney's family.
