FRIENDS.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF MR. ROCHELLE
BOYLE, FORMER SHERIFF OF UNION COUNTY AND THE
LAST SURVIVING MEMBER OF THE ORIGINAL SOUTH
CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL, AND EXTENDING
SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Mr. Rochelle Boyle of Union County died Tuesday, April
14, 1998 at the age of ninety-one; and
Whereas, he was born in Cherokee County in 1906 and became a
member of the original South Carolina Highway Patrol upon the
creation of that organization in the early 1930's; he was the last
surviving member of the original group of individuals which
comprised this state's highway patrol; and
Whereas, he also served two terms as Sheriff of Union County in the
1940's and 1950's; and
Whereas, he was appointed to the first board of governors for the
South Carolina Law Enforcement Training School (forerunner of the
South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy) and joined the State Law
Enforcement Division (SLED) in 1957; he was honored by the
General Assembly in 1989 for his dedication and many contributions
to law enforcement; and
Whereas, he also served as Union County Tax Collector and Tax
Investigator until his retirement in 1972; he was a member of Grace
United Methodist Church and was a Mason and a member of the
Hejaz Shrine Temple; and
Whereas, he was a law enforcement legend in his beloved Palmetto
State and was an outstanding and devoted public servant; he was
widely respected, admired, and loved, and he will be greatly missed.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, expresses heartfelt sorrow at the death of Mr. Rochelle
Boyle, former Sheriff of Union County and the last surviving
member of the original South Carolina Highway Patrol, and extends
deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Sheriff Boyle's family.
