PASTOR OF WESLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ON JOHNS ISLAND, FOR HIS THIRTY-FIVE
YEARS OF SERVICE AS A UNITED METHODIST PASTOR THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF SOUTH
CAROLINA, AND TO WISH HIM AND HIS FAMILY THE VERY BEST UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE DR. FRANKLIN H.
JOHNSON, PASTOR OF WESLEY UNITED METHODIST
CHURCH ON JOHNS ISLAND, FOR HIS THIRTY-FIVE YEARS
OF SERVICE AS A UNITED METHODIST PASTOR
THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO
WISH HIM AND HIS FAMILY THE VERY BEST UPON HIS
RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Dr. Franklin H. Johnson, Pastor of the Wesley United
Methodist Church on John's Island, South Carolina, was born in
Sumter, South Carolina, and is the son of Marie and the late Fred
Johnson; and
Whereas, he is a graduate of Lincoln High School in Sumter, received
his A.B. Degree from Morris College in Sumter, and obtained his
Master of Divinity Degree from Hood Theological Seminary in
Salisbury, North Carolina; and
Whereas, Dr. Johnson is blessed with a wonderful family that
includes his lovely wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Chandler Johnson, and four
daughters, Vanessa, Frankye, Chenita, and Venita; and
Whereas, he is listed in Who's Who in South Carolina and Who's
Who, Outstanding Black Ministers and is a Master Mason and a 32nd
Degree Mason; and
Whereas, Dr. Johnson has served on the Conference Council of
Ministries, the City of Camden's Mayor's Blue Ribbon Committee on
Drugs, is a former President of the Kershaw County Black Caucus,
and is a former member of the Kershaw County Committee on Sex
Education, and
Whereas, he served on the Board of Directors of the Wesley
Foundation at Clemson University, was an Oconee County Family
Court counselor, served as Personnel Chairman for the Williamsburg
County Council on Aging, served as Youth Coordinator for the
Florence and Hartsville District, and was a former teacher at St. Paul
Elementary School in Summerton; and
Whereas, Dr. Johnson has pastored congregations in Longtown,
Bishopville, Lake City, Camden, Seneca, Cades, Centenary,
Hartsville, Clover; and
Whereas, the members of Wesley United Methodist Church on Johns
Island will honor Dr. Johnson with an Appreciation-Retirement
Banquet on Sunday, May 17, 1998, for his thirty-five years of service
to the United Methodist Church and communities across the State of
South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina commend and congratulate Dr. Franklin H. Johnson, Pastor
of Wesley United Methodist Church on Johns Island for thirty-five
years of service as a United Methodist Church Pastor throughout the
State of South Carolina, and to wish him and his family the very best
upon his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Dr. Franklin H. Johnson.
