 A SENATE RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
 SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF MR. ALTON E. SALTERS OF WEST COLUMBIA,
 AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF MR. ALTON E. SALTERS OF WEST COLUMBIA, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Alton E. Salters of West Columbia who died on May 31, 1998; and

Whereas, Mr. Salters was born in Lane, South Carolina, the son of the late Alex Moore and Ethel Salters; and

Whereas, he was a graduate of Swansea High School and attended San Diego State University; and

Whereas, Mr. Salters served his country with distinction as a United States Marine during World War II; and

Whereas, he was the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the American Legion Post #90 and Past President of the West Columbia Civitans; and

Whereas, Mr. Salters was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of West Columbia where he was a Past Deacon and Treasurer; and

Whereas, he was a thirty-third degree Mason, a member of the Sinclair Masonic Lodge #154, and a member of the Jamil Shriners and Omar Temple; and

Whereas, Mr. Salters was a successful businessman who owned and operated the Anchor Restaurant, was a former owner of Union Cab Company, and was a joint owner of Lexington Investment Company; and

Whereas, he was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife, Elizabeth F. Salters; his daughter, Sherry Way; his step-daughters, Carolyn Hertz and Bonnie West; his sons, H. C. "Butch" Salters, Alton Salters, Sr., and Paul Salters; and two grandsons; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate would like to take this opportunity to express their deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Alton E. Salters. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate hereby express their deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Alton E. Salters of West Columbia who died on May 31, 1998.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth F. Salters.
