WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY FOR HIS MORE THAN SEVENTEEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE
TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND CONGRATULATING HIM ON THE VINDICATION OF
HIS GOOD NAME AND REPUTATION ESTABLISHED DURING THAT SERVICE.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
COMMENDING THE HONORABLE BENJAMIN J. GORDON,
JR. OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY FOR HIS MORE THAN
SEVENTEEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE
PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND CONGRATULATING
HIM ON THE VINDICATION OF HIS GOOD NAME AND
REPUTATION ESTABLISHED DURING THAT SERVICE.
Whereas, our esteemed colleague and friend, Benjamin J. Gordon, Jr.
was a member of the House of Representatives for more than
seventeen years representing district 101 in Williamsburg County;
and
Whereas, former Representative Gordon, a minister, sales counselor,
and licensed auctioneer, was born in Kingstree, South Carolina,
earned a B.A. degree from Clafin College in Orangeburg, South
Carolina in 1954, and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from
Friendship College; and
Whereas, he is married to the former Susie Mae Johnson and has one
daughter; and
Whereas, although he left the House of Representatives to defend
himself of charges lodged during the "Lost Trust" sting operation, his
good name and reputation were restored by Federal District Court
Judge Falcon Hawkins whose February 28, 1997, order dismissed all
charges brought against him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly commend the Honorable
Benjamin J. Gordon, Jr. of Williamsburg County, our respected
friend and former colleague, for more than seventeen years of
outstanding legislative service to the people of South Carolina and
congratulating him on the vindication of his good name and
reputation established during that service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the Honorable Benjamin J. Gordon, Jr.
