A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
COMMENDING BISHOP ROBERT L. BISHOP FOR MANY
YEARS OF DEDICATED WITNESS AND OUTSTANDING
CHURCH SERVICE.
Whereas, Bishop Robert L. Bishop was born in Newberry County;
and
Whereas, he received his conversion at age sixteen and became a
member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as a trustee; and
Whereas, after completing his secondary education in Newberry,
Reverend Bishop attended Allen University, received an associate's
degree from Buffalo Bible Institute, and a Bachelor's Degree in Bible
from Houghton College in Houghton, New York; and
Whereas, he has completed graduate studies in Bible and Church
Administration at Columbia International University; and
Whereas, Reverend Bishop was ordained as a bishop and conferred
a doctorate's degree in September, 1996; and
Whereas, he has attended numerous ministerial conferences
throughout this nation; and
Whereas, Reverend Bishop established a mission school in the
Republic of Haiti in 1992; and
Whereas, over the past thirty years, he has built and renovated
numerous churches and educational complexes and organized Sunday
school and BTU classes; and
Whereas, he has been employed with a variety of institutions which
include the Buffalo, New York, Public School System, Ford Motor
Company, and the South Carolina Department of Transportation; and
Whereas, Reverend Bishop is the founder and pastor of Grace
Christian Church in the City of Columbia; and
Whereas, he is the devoted husband of the Reverend Dr. Azalee C.
Bishop; and
Whereas, on April 19, 1997, Bishop Robert L. Bishop will be
honored at a recognition banquet at the Newberry Community Hall
in the Town of Newberry; and
Whereas, he is an outstanding church official who is respected and
admired by all who know him, and we share in the joy of the
occasion honoring him for his excellent work. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, commends Bishop Robert L. Bishop for his many years
of dedicated witness and outstanding church service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Bishop Robert L. Bishop.
